Concurrent Enrollment
What is concurrent enrollment at d.tech?
Concurrent enrollment at d.tech is defined as any course taken outside of d.tech that is UC A-G approved and is either transferred onto the students’ high school transcript and/or takes place during regular school hours.
Are you considering taking a concurrent enrollment class?
First, review the Section ‘Is it right for me to enroll?’ to determine if a community college class might be right for you
How much does it cost?
High school students can take up to 11 units per semester at a community college tuition-free. However, students are responsible for paying any class supply fees, purchasing required textbooks, paying for online access to texts, and any online homework sites etc. Please see specific courses for any costs associated with taking a community college class or email one of the community college counselors with additional questions.
Which local colleges offer concurrent enrollment?
Skyline College, College of San Mateo, and Cañada College
WebSmart has real-time registration information for any of the San Mateo County Community Colleges and provides information on open and closed classes for the current registration period.
Can you take courses through a school or program other than a community college?
You can take a course in any school/program that is UC A-G approved. You can verify if the course you want to take is UC A-G-approved through the UC A-G Course List Search website. Most of these schools or programs will have a cost associated with them.
Before enrolling in a college-level class, ask yourself these questions:
What classes would be good for me to take?
Talk to your core teacher(s) about any class that would be good for you to take.
Am I ready for college-level courses right now?
College classes usually follow strict deadlines and grading policies. Students are expected to:
Spend a minimum of 2 hours per week for every unit of a class in which they are enrolled (a 3-unit class = 6 hours of work per week beyond attending class).
Monitor emails sent to them for registration, payment, and add/drop or withdrawal dates.
Pay lab fees or class fees by the deadlines or be automatically dropped from a class.
Read and follow class expectations as outlined in the class syllabus. NOTE: Your professors will not always remind you of upcoming projects, tests, or deadlines.
Am I excited about taking a college class?
The most successful concurrent enrollment students are those who are self-motivated to succeed at the college level. These students typically persist in figuring out problems, participating in class, approaching professors during office hours for questions, and not procrastinating on getting started on semester projects.
How will I get there?
Consider the college closest to your home or to d.tech and look into the classes you are interested in taking, the times they are offered, and how you will get there. SamTrans has buses that travel from the train stations to the colleges, but these rides are generally about 45 minutes to -1 hour in length.
Do I understand the d.tech Concurrent Enrollment Policy?
Please review the d.tech Concurrent Enrollment Policy to help you understand the criteria for approval of concurrent enrollment courses.
If you still want to take a concurrent enrollment community college class, please continue reading the “Apply for Concurrent Enrollment at Community College” section below or the “Other Schools and Programs” section if you plan to attend a school other than the community colleges in San Mateo County.
Apply for Concurrent Enrollment at Community College

Step 4: Identify Your Class & Determine Prerequisites
For any of the San Mateo Community Colleges (Cañada, Skyline & College of San Mateo), go to the SMCCD Webschedule to see the class list
Select a Term for Class Search
Enter Subject or Course Number to locate courses
Select the course you would like to take. Classes shouldn’t conflict with a student’s d.tech schedule - see d.tech Concurrent Enrollment Policy
Identify if the class has any prerequisites. If yes - See Step 7 below.
Step 5: Complete the d.tech Concurrent Enrollment Request Form
Complete the d.tech Concurrent Enrollment Request Form Summer/Fall 2025. (Note: this form must be completed by a d.tech student. If the course is for a d.tech graduation requirement, approval from Counseling will be required.)

You will receive a response to your request form from the Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator within one week.
Step 6: Complete the College Connection Course Request Form
For San Mateo Community College District Classes:

[Please use the concurrentenrollment@dtechhs.org email and not your counselor’s work email!]
Step 7: Confirm Course Prerequisites
See if the course has a prerequisite (a prerequisite is a condition of enrollment that students are required to meet to enroll in a course)
Look up the course description in Webschedule to determine if the course has any prerequisites
Complete the prerequisite clearance form for any class with a math or English class prerequisite: College of San Mateo, Skyline College
Cañada College: To clear a Math/English prerequisite at Cañada College, high school students must email their transcript to canadaplacement@smccd.edu (make sure to include your G# in the email as well as what class you are trying to place into)
Step 8: Register for the Class
VERY IMPORTANT: Only after completing the above steps, do students receive an email letting them know they are approved to register for a concurrent enrollment college class.
Log into webSMART on or after that date to register for the classes
Click on “Student Services”

Click on “Register for Classes”
Select a Term
Either “Find Classes” or “Enter CRN”
Click “Add to Summary”
Your courses will populate in the bottom right box as “Pending”
Click “Submit”
When your course shows a green “Registered” under status, then you are enrolled in your class.
Be sure to login to your Canvas via OneLogin and pay any textbook/materials fees to stay enrolled in your courses.
Step 9: Submit Proof of Registration
Email concurrentenrollment@dtechhs.org a screenshot of your course(s) registration within two weeks to confirm your course registration.

Official transcripts must be delivered from one institution (the community college) to the other (Design Tech). If they are handled by students or parents/caregivers they are no longer considered official transcripts.
