Design Tech is a free public charter school that values diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic level, sexual orientation, physical ability, family structure and religion.
Registration for entry in grades nine and ten will open on January 8, and close on February 28, 2019 for the March 7 lottery. The registration link will be posted on this page.
Prospective students currently in grade eight enter a lottery for 150 ninth grade seats. Tenth grade offers are by attrition only and may not be available in March, or at the end of the summer unless a seat opens up. Design Tech is not accepting registrations for junior and senior year. Students who receive an offer - along with their parents/guardians - will be able to visit the campus before the decision deadline.
The 2019 lottery priorities are in negotiation between the Sequoia and San Mateo Union High School Districts, and Design Tech High School. Please watch this space for updates in the new year.
Follow these steps to register for the 2019-2020 school year.
Step 1 ➝
Prospective students must be current California residents to register for the lottery.
Students in the Sequoia and San Mateo Union High School districts must complete address verification at the district office to be eligible for potential priorities. Deadline: February 15, 2019.
Address Verification - San Mateo Union High School District 650 N. Delaware Street, San Mateo, CA 94401 Tel. (650) 558-2299 new address!
Address Verification - Sequoia Union High School District 480 James Ave, Redwood City, CA 94062 Tel. (650) 369-1411 ext. 22209
Students in Free or Reduced Price Meal Program (FRPM)
Families of students in the FRPM program should email the FRPM letter from their district to the d.tech enrollment office by February 28, 2019 to be eligible for potential priority. Copies can be obtained from the district office.
Priority does not guarantee an offer given the number of registrations typically exceeds the number of seats available.
Step 2 ➝
Register here between January 8, 2019 – February 28, 2019. The link will be available then. No registrations will be accepted after midnight on February 28 for any reason.
Be sure to answer all questions accurately. Complete, sign, and click submit. Make sure you receive a confirmation email. It may take half an hour to arrive.
D.tech will email you a reminder about the lottery and waitlist process on March 5.
Step 3 ➝
Wait for the March 7, 2019 lottery. Start time 5:30 pm. Results are expected to be emailed sometime between 5:30 & 9:00 pm.
The majority of families wait for lottery results to be emailed to them in the privacy of their homes. However, the lottery is held in public on campus, and families can attend to see if their numerical identifier is posted. Student names are not used at this event to protect family confidentiality.
March 9: Save the date for ‘A Day in the Life of d.tech’ - a campus visit for prospective students with offers, as well as the first 25 students on the waitlist. Time 9:00 am - 1:30 pm, to be confirmed.
March 16: Open House for prospective parents. Time 9:00 - 12:30 pm, to be confirmed.
The deadline for student decisions, online enrollment and all paperwork to be received by d.tech, is March 22 at 4:00 pm. After the deadline, incomplete enrollment offers will be rescinded and the seat will be offered to a student on the waitlist.
