Subra Narayan - Board President
Subra is a CoFounder of Ooyavah Inc., an early stage company bringing auto stereoscopic 3D capability to tablets. Prior to Founding Ooyavah, Subra was head of Kodak’s External Alliances’ West Coast practice in his role as Director of Venture Capital and M&A for Eastman Kodak. Prior to Kodak, Subra was a General Partner with Inflection Equity. Subra holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School, as well as a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Subra is a very active ice hockey player and coach as well as an avid cyclist. Subra Narayan was born in Madras, India.
Jaime Dal Porto - 2016-17 Outgoing Parent Representative
Jaime Dal Porto is a Vice President in Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at Visa, Inc. A twenty-five year veteran at Visa, she has extensive industry knowledge and experience. She has managed strategic partnerships for the last ten years, with a specific focus on eCommerce and the Tech Sector. She has lead relationships at Amazon, Microsoft, PayPal, Google, Intel and currently Apple and Facebook. She was a key lead in the launch of Apple Pay in the US and continues to manage the Apple Pay program at Visa, as well as champion design thinking and innovation for the company. Jaime holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Jaime has a passion for education, educational change, teaching and coaching, and exhibits those passions past and present through involvement and board representation with PTA, AYSO and National Charity League. She lives on the peninsula with her husband and two children. The Dal Porto's are a Design Tech High School Founding Family, and Jaime is the acting parent representative on the Design Tech High School Board.
Tim Bull - 2017-18 Incoming Parent Representative
Tim is Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for MixBit in San Mateo, a technology startup building tools to help companies hold better video and audio conferences. Tim and his family moved to the Bay Area from Melbourne, Australia in 2013, when his startup Trunk.ly (where he was both CEO and Co-Founder), was acquired by the founders of YouTube. Prior to Trunk.ly, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers Global as a Director of IT Architecture, conducting reviews of technology projects designed for use by 160,000 staff globally. He was selected by PricewaterhouseCoopers Australia as part of their youth leadership team and was the National Director of Software Development. He has experience on both sides of the board process, including a previous term as a board member for an elementary school in Melbourne. Tim enjoys volunteering at the school, sailing, writing software and playing computer games. Along with his wife Karina and two children, he lives in Belmont just across 101 from the new campus. They are a D.Tech founding family with both children currently attending the school.
Mark has been a private investor for the past decade across a variety of industries, and he has served in operating roles or provided consulting services with respect to several of his investments. He previously served as Co-Head of Technology Corporate and Investment Banking for Banc of America Securities and also ran Trammell Crow Company’s Northern California commercial real estate operation. He began his career with Morgan Stanley in New York. Mark received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and attended the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a B.S. in Finance and a B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude.
Steven Laub is the former President, Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Atmel Corporation, a public semiconductor company based in San Jose. For over 25 years, he has served in executive management and board positions in public and private semiconductor corporations including as President and Chief Executive Officer of Silicon Image, Inc., President and Chief Operating Officer at Lattice Semiconductor Corporation and Executive Chairman of Teridian Corporation. He also was a technology partner at Golden Gate Capital Corporation, a private equity buyout firm. Prior to that time, Mr. Laub was a vice president and partner at Bain and Company, a global strategic consulting firm. Mr. Laub holds a degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles (B.A.) and a degree from Harvard Law School (J.D.). Mr. Laub brings to the Board the critical expertise gained over an accomplished career focusing on executive management, public and private company board service, and a background in law.
Lija McBride - Secretary
Lija McBride joined the d.tech board in January 2016. She earned BA in American Studies and MBA from Stanford University. Most of Lija's professional career was spent in retail and consumer strategy, marketing and merchandising roles at companies like Gap and Evite. More recently she has spent her time and energy serving on and managing non-profit boards including The Princess Project and the Parca Auxiliary. She lives on the peninsula with her husband and two sons. She enjoys hiking, watching sports, and traveling.
John Peterson - Chief Financial Officer
John has been practicing design thinking for over thirty years. He is the CEO and co-founder of Senturus, Inc., a Business Analytics consulting company with a sizable training division. Before Senturus, John directed marketing for Virage, a software startup that he helped take public. John, who holds three patents, also spent nine years at Apple in manufacturing and product management. He led teams to design Macintosh computers for the K-12 education market, including the first one with built-in 3D and video. John holds an MBA from Harvard, as well as degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Economics from Stanford. John spends his free time with his 4 kids backpacking, cooking or working in his shop, which is equipped with CNC machines and a plasma cutter.
Alex Terman is an independent education consultant, focusing on strategy, finance, and operations for K-12 schools and related organizations. Prior to starting his consulting practice, Alex served as a Partner at the Learning Accelerator, a non-profit organization that supports the implementation of high-quality blended learning.
Alex was the co-founder and CEO of Digital Parent, an online service providing e-learning resources and advice for parents of young children, and served as the Chief Business Officer for the Stupski Foundation, an operating foundation focused on transforming urban school districts. He was also the founding Chief Operating Officer at Leadership Public Schools, a charter management organization serving low income communities in the Bay Area. In addition to his involvement in education, Alex has worked at America Online and Bain & Company. He has an MBA from Stanford, a BA in History from UC Berkeley, and he completed the Broad Residency, a two-year program that prepares participants for leadership roles in public education.
